Hello and welcome to our class page!
Exciting upcoming events ...
Lat day of half term 27th October
Trip to Clearwell caves 8th December
P.E Kits must be in school on a Wednesday morning. P.E will be in the hall through the Autumn and Winter months and so shorts and a white t-shirt will be needed each week. Forest school will alternate with P.E. so please could childrne have a pair of wellies in school also.
Homework needs to be in by Wednesday - Thursday morning at the latest. This allows us time to mark the last piece of homework and change your reading book.
Please ensure all children have a coat every day. We love to make use of our outdoor environment. We would like to make the most of our outdoors for as long as possible, even when its cold, so coats will be great!
We get so busy in our classroom that we often need to take off our jumpers and cardigans. Please make sure names are in every item of uniform and remind your child to put their jumper or cardigan on their own peg when they take it off.
We sometimes have accidents in class and so we would appreciate if every child could have a spare change of clothes to keep on their peg.
Dinners now cost £2.30. Please ensure dinner money and fruit tuck money are put into a money bag/envelope/purse that is clearly marked with the child's name. Snack is accepted from home, however this does need to be healthy (e.g. fruit, breakfast biscuits, cheese).
We love giving out lots of Dojo/Monster points so keep an eye on how your child is doing using the dojo app or website. We love to celebrate success and we would love you to be able to celebrate with the children at home too!
An author per term!

Summer term: This term we will be looking at books written by Eric Carle.
Read Write Inc
This is our 'scheme' for teaching children to read and write. We begin by teaching each sound in set 1 sounds:
The sounds that contain 2 letters are called 'blends'. If a child can idetnify a blend in a word (eg, f i sh) but struggles to locate it on the sound mat, we will help.
We previouslty sent these sounds home along with the accompanying 'rhyme' for each (a, around the apple and down the leaf).
When the children know enough sounds to begin reading, we start reading 'ditties' (specifically designed short burst reading books to build upon skills already learned.) In these ditties are 'red words'. These are words which the children will eventually recognise but are unable to simply sound out when they are still unrecognisable to them. Some of these words are:
If a child is struggling to read a red word, we will say the word for them.
When children are confident with reading sounds we begin writing.
When writing the sounds we use our Read Write Inc 'rhymes' (we have sent these home: eg. 'a' around the apple and down the leaf.) We encourage the children to form the letters correctly. We use our handwriting mat to check the orientation of each letter:
Some letters touch the sky (b,d,f,h,k,l,t) Some letters get a bit wet (g,j,p,q,y) and all letters either face the sun or they face away from the sun. We call the broken line in the middle of the writing lines an 'imaginary line' because it is not present in writing books.
Our Gruffalo Topic
We had such a fun time learning about the Gruffalo. We read the story, retold the story, looked at all the characters, made the characters and lots, lots more.
Here are some of the things we got up to ...
