Enjoy your summer!

Head Teacher's End of Year Message - September 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we reach the end of another remarkable academic year at Nant Celyn, I want to take a moment to reflect on everything we have achieved together. It has been a vibrant, busy, and deeply rewarding year. Looking back at our school calendar, it is clear that this year has provided a wonderfully rich mix of high-quality learning, enrichment, and memorable community events for every child.
A Year of Rich Memories
Our journey through the school year highlights just how much our pupils have experienced and achieved:
- Autumn Term: We hit the ground running with school photographs and our Harvest celebrations. Learning was brought to life with fantastic educational visits to Cardiff Castle, St Fagans, and the Cardiff Museum. We also celebrated our Welsh heritage on Diwrnod Shwmae, connected with you during Parents’ Evenings, and focused on kindness and care during Anti-Bullying Week, Children in Need, and our regular wellbeing activities.
- A Festive Christmas: December was a magical, whirlwind period! From beautiful concerts across all year groups to Christmas crafts, our bustling Christmas market, and a delicious Christmas dinner, the festive spirit was alive and well. The children loved their visits to Santa, our trip to the pantomime, and the fantastic PTFA events that brought our school community closer together.
- Spring Term: We embraced culture and competition with exciting sporting tournaments and our traditional Eisteddfod celebrations. We shared our love of reading on World Book Day, supported Red Nose Day, and welcomed families in for craft sessions. Learning was further enriched through Parliament assemblies, concert performances, community information events, and crucial transition activities for our Year 6 pupils.
- Summer Term: Our final term placed a brilliant focus on pupil voice, wellbeing, and wider experiences. Pupils shone during Deaf Awareness Week, threw themselves into STEM projects, and showcased their creativity in arts exhibitions and dance festivals. We enjoyed thrilling sports competitions, and vital Eco activities, alongside numerous class assemblies where the children proudly shared their hard work with you.
- The Grand Finale: The year has culminated in vital transition and celebration events. From Move Up Day and nursery celebrations to the Year 6 workshops, an Eco March, a brand new Sports Day even and wildly popular Colour Run, and the highly anticipated Year 6 Prom, it has been the perfect way to mark our pupils' incredible achievements.
Fond Farewells
The end of the year inevitably brings some sad goodbyes as members of our team move on to new chapters.
We say a huge thank you and goodbye to Kelsey Riley, Holly Shepherd, and Kriszti Kapas. Thank you for your hard work, care, and dedication to our pupils.
A special mention goes to Sam Evans, who is leaving us to take up a well-deserved Deputy Headship. Sam has been an integral part of our school family, and while we will miss her immensely, we are incredibly proud to see her take this next step in her career.
We wish all of our leaving staff the absolute best for the future.
Our Year 6 Leavers
To our wonderful Year 6 pupils: as you prepare to take the big step up to high school, please know how immensely proud we are of every single one of you. You have grown into mature, kind, and capable young people. As you move on to your next adventure, remember the values you learned here. You will always be a part of Team Nant Celyn, and our doors will always be open to you.
With Gratitude
An enriched school year like this does not happen by accident. It is the result of an incredible team effort, and I want to extend my deepest thanks to:
- Our passionate and dedicated staff, who consistently go above and beyond to create a safe, inspiring, and joyful learning environment.
- Our supportive and dedicated Governing Body, with a special mention to our Chair, Kim Andrews, and Vice Chair, Rebecca Driscoll, for their unwavering guidance and leadership.
- Our fabulous School Improvement Partner, Kate Olsen, for her invaluable support and collaboration throughout the year.
- Our hardworking PTFA, whose fundraising efforts and community events add so much magic to our school.
- And, of course, our wonderful children and supportive parents. Thank you for your partnership, your enthusiasm, and your trust in us.
I wish you all a safe, happy, and relaxing summer holiday. We look forward to welcoming our returning pupils back in September for another fantastic year.
Cofion Gorau,
Keri Smith
